The Neighbor Dorothy Show...

SPOILER ALERT - this post includes information through page xxvi...
Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! Our Needle & Prose Book Lovers Club has officially begun!! Have you cracked open your book and started reading?

My absolute favorite part of the beginning of this story was the introduction of The Neighbor Dorothy Show! I swear I have fallen in LOVE with Neighbor Dorothy and I want to have a show just like hers!
Here are the discussion questions for this week:
- Do you think The Neighbor Dorothy Show can translate to today's world? If so, how?
- The Smith family talks about being able to stop time. Would you like to have this ability? If you could, when would you freeze time in your own life?
Please comment below to answer the discussion questions for this week and get our book club conversation going!

Assignment for the week:
Please take a picture of yourself reading our first book in the wild and email it to needleandprose@gmail.com to be included in future blog posts.
Until next time...
Angela
I don’t think the Neighbor Dorothy show would survive in today’s world of podcasts, highlight reels, YouTube videos & social media. I think the content is not relevant to young people today who have such busy lives & get their news in other ways. I don’t think many of them would be interested in cake recipes or hearing someone play the piano. Maybe it would be appealing to farm wives or homesteaders who would be interested in the content & might have the time for it. Unfortunately, I don’t think it would appeal to today’s millennials, but the baby boomers like myself would enjoy it once in awhile.
As far as stopping time, I agree that I wouldn’t want to because I might miss something good & we could all use some good news these days. If I could stop time for just a short while, I would go back 20 years to 2005 when I had my three boys at home & my husband and I weren’t retired yet. My mom & dad were still alive & they were such an important part of our family life. Our house was a beehive of activity & it was chaotic at times, but the house was always full-full of kids, friends, family & love. I miss those times.
1. I think the world today needs shows like Neighbor Dorothy. I am not sure that it would draw the patronage necessary for success. A show that is all positive conversation, and promotes family and community values would be a refreshing change. Sharing recipes and homey arts would also be a wonderful change from most of today’s “entertainment.” If you find a way to have a show like Neighbor Dorothy, count me in as part of your regular audience. It is possible that a show like this could be even bigger than the one in the book. With most entertainment being recorded, you are not limited to enjoy your chosen shows at a time that works best for you.
2. I am 73 years old. I have enjoyed all of the phases of my life including the current one – retirement. There are of course, small parts of getting older that I would not mind going away (arthritis). I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for me during the rest of my worldly life.
My husband will take a picture of me reading my book in the wild around my house and I will send it to you as soon as possible.
